Hitchin knew that with a severely weakened side this visit to top of the table Hackney was going to be hard and so it proved. Within two minutes Hackney’s number 13 had gone under the posts for a successfully converted try. Two more tries followed before Hitchin responded with a try by Ritchie Sinclair chasing up a neat kick by Adam Shaw.
However, despite a huge defensive effort Hitchin could not prevent their quicker and more efficient opponents from scoring four more tries before half time. Luckily several tries were not converted, even in front of the posts
The second half saw Hitchin being more competitive but despite strong runs from captain Bolter they just could not break through the Hackney defence. With the home forwards producing quick ball and back and forwards combing well, a further four tries were scored before full time
