OMT’s
continued their recent run off good form & results, in overcoming visitors Hitchin
with a convincing second half display
The
Hitchin pack played well, but without gaining dominance, and the OMT's backs ,and Fijian centre in particular,
proved hard to handle. The visitors’ discipline at times left much to be desired
Just
eight minutes into the game Hitchin conceded a converted try, scored by the OMT’s
ten.
After
a quarter of an hour Elliott Gibson was held up over the line, and from the resulting
scrum the ball came to Matt Houlden but he too was held up. OMTs were penalised
for offside and Hitchin opted to take the scrum, resulting in a push over the
line for flanker Carwyn Morgan to touch down.
The conversion was missed.
OMTs
struck right back with an unconverted try, and just before the break their
winger made a strong run down the touchline before cutting back inside to make
the conversion easier.
Half
time score 19 – 5
A
penalty after 8 minutes was taken quickly ending with an unconverted try for the
home side , and two minutes later Hitchin gifted an interception for another.
The
Hitchin defence couldn’t cope with the speed of the
OMTs
backs and eight minutes later conceded another converted try.
Hitchin
forced play to within five metres of the OMTs line but
even with the OMTs scrum going back at a
rate of knots they were able to get the ball out and feed their speedy centre,
who combined with his winger to run the length of the field to score under the
posts. Shortly after, they added to
their tally with another unconverted try.
However,
Hitchin had not given up and had the last word with a break up the middle,
supported by lock Nick Panton who scored
under the post with the extra points being added by Vinnie Kevans
The
result leaves Hitchin in seventh place in a crowded mid table
