Skipper Tom Tidey touches down
Hitchin
again scored 6 tries, as they secured their position as joint leaders in the
league with a well-earned victory at
Wasps
Wasps
kicked off into the wind and Hitchin gathered the ball and attacked deep into
Wasps territory. A period of sustained
pressure was rewarded with a penalty to Hitchin. The kick bounced infield off
the post, resulting in a scrum 10metres
out. The Hitchin number 8 Armel Baufume
picked up from the base of the scrum and
was stopped 2 metres short, but prop Stuart West following up gathered the ball
,and went over the line, Ben Wiggins adding the conversion.
Another
penalty to Hitchin led to a scrum 5 metres out, the ball was passed along the
line for Jon Whitby to add to the try he scored in the previous week, Wiggins
converting
The
visitors were enjoying good possession and territory, and another penalty gained
was enhanced by the Wasps conceding an extra 10metres for backchat and ended
with Tom Tidey going over with Ben Wiggins adding another conversion.
As
half time approached Wasps regathered and, after a long period of sustained
pressure on the Hitchin line, found a gap for their number 10 to go through to
score an unconverted try ,in the 5oth minute

Hitchin
were playing with increasing confidence, and after defending well for a few minutes
broke out from defence for Ben Wiggins to run in for a bonus point try which he duly
converted.
More
pressure on the Wasps line saw centre Carwyn Morgan breakthrough in the middle,
managing to get the ball away as he was tackled to Whitby, to score his second try,
again converted by the reliable Wiggins.
With
ten minutes to go Hitchin ran the ball along the backs in their own half to Will
Rooney, and the winger outpaced the covering defence to score under the posts
to make the conversion by Wiggins a formality.
This
was the Hedgehogs’ best performance of the season, with the Wiggins bothers dictating play well at half back, and debutant Pierre De Rancourt
picking up man of the match for his
