About Hitchin RFC

Hitchin Rugby Football Club is a non-profit organization whose mission is to participate in and promote the sport of rugby at all age levels within the Hitchin area. This includes Mini/ Midi (U7-U12), Youth (U13-U17), Colts (U19), Seniors (19+), Vets (35+) and Ladies. This participation and promotion is accomplished through various means including playing, coaching, refereeing and community development.

Past

Hitchin RFC has a 50+ year relationship with the Town of Hitchin, having been founded in 1954. See the History section for more. Highlights have included playing at Twickenham in the final of the national Junior RFU Cup in 1993 and the establishment of the country's first Academy.

Present

As members of the Herts RFU and RFU, Hitchin's 1st XV competes in the London NW4 league whilst the other senior sides compete in merit tables. All of our youth teams have matches on a regular basis and compete in County Championships. See the individual team pages for fixtures, results etc.

Currently our membership stands at over 500 people, including active and associate members. The majority of our members are everyday working professionals involved with various trades and professions including; students, teachers, designers, lawyers, carpenters, doctors, engineers, police officers and even an Estate Agent.

From a geographic standpoint, our members live and work in towns and villages all over the North Herts/South Beds area and originally hail from countries all over the world, including; Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Hungary, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand as well as England. Various sections of the club tour once a year to different parts of the country and occasionally overseas to play against other clubs.

All of these factors, along with individual member commitment, a CAMRA award winning bar, an extensive community development programme and a thriving contribute to Hitchin RFC being probably the best rugby club in Hertfordshire in all physical, competitive and social aspects.

Future

Since our humble beginnings, over 1000 players have proudly worn Hitchin's colours of maroon and white. More than half of these players had their introduction to the sport and played their first games of rugby in a Hitchin RFC shirt, coming through the ranks of the Mini and Junior Sections thanks to our 30+ qualified coaches.

It is the objective of Hitchin RFC to continue to participate in and promote the sport of rugby, welcoming new members into the club on a constant basis.

Hitchin RFC is continually seeking new players from all levels of experience to join any of the following programs: Mens, Vets, Ladies, U19 Boys, U13-U18 Boys, or U7-U12 Girls and Boys. Whether a seasoned veteran or new to the sport, there is a place for your contributions to the continued success of Hitchin RFC both on and off the pitch.
