Hitchin Under 23 University Squad reach semis
A superb showing by our Under 23 (mainly Uni returning students team) in the hissing rain at OAs on Wednesday saw them reach the semi finals of the Fast and Furious competition, losing to the eventual winners OMTs.
Despite last minute cry-offs and no shows which depleted the squad to only 12 players, group wins against OMTs 2, Cheshunt, a draw with Tabard and a loss against Datchworth (they scored on their only trip out of their half) saw Hitchin top the group. A 2 try to 1 loss in the semis from the exhausted team was very creditable and a deeper squad would have paid dividends. Westy did win the “Try of the Night” award when he scored (almost) against Datchworth after running the length of the field, only to run out of steam to pop the ball to glory-boy Callum Taylor to flop over the line. So we gave up our Hit of the Night award won for the past two seasons (Duane followed by Will Jay) to win the Try of the Night.
Well done all – and to Jim for running the team and to Tim for losing even more hair getting a squad together. Thanks for the support from parents, Dave and Hannah Marshall and various First Team players.
