RFU Women’s Junior Cup
Woman of the Match: Suzie Gajda-Hilton
Coaches Player: Amy Haughton
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try and try again! That seems to be the motto for the newly refurbished Hitchin Ladies’ Team this season. With four of the tries being scored by debutantes the team is excelling from their latest recruitment drive. Lucy Ward led a squad of 21 players onto the pitch ready for their first Cup Match. With a fast, hard start Hitchin were pushing up to the line but not quite finishing. Twenty minutes in, our debutante, Suzie Gajda-Hilton crashed over the line with her first of three tries. This initiated the continuation of Hitchin tries from both backs and forwards. Jade Cooper also played an excellent game and her try finally came as she crashed down in the first half. Mellowship also scored a try on the wing and completed a conversion for the team. Thompson, (Hitchin’s latest addition to aptly be named ‘Legs’) broke strongly through the line and scored in the second half. Stockwood looked close to scoring in the second half with quick, hard rucking. However, Hitchin hooker Megan Nash turned many a ball over, which led to creative play in the backs and depth to the score line. An excellent win for our Hitchin Ladies’ team in the first round of the Cup Competition.
